About Maison Makalu

Our journey begins in the heart of Nepal, where centuries-old traditions of cashmere weaving meet unparalleled craftsmanship. Each of our shawls tells a story that starts with cashmere from Himalayan mountain goats, sourced from the world's highest altitudes where the finest and softest fibers are produced.

We collaborate directly with master artisans in Nepal who dedicate up to nine months to handweave and embroider a single shawl. These skilled craftspeople, many of whom learned their art from generations before them, pour their expertise and cultural heritage into every piece they create.

Our commitment goes beyond creating luxury accessories – we're preserving an ancient art form. Each shawl represents the living heritage of Nepal's textile traditions, combining time-honored techniques with designs that speak to contemporary aesthetics. When you own one of our pieces, you're not just wearing a shawl; you're wearing a piece of carefully preserved history, crafted with patience, skill, and deep respect for tradition.

We believe in exceptional quality, and supporting the artisan communities that make our pieces possible. Every shawl carries with it the story of its makers and their dedication to excellence.
